Client: National Universal Recycling and Recovery Corporation (NURCC)

Location: Spartanburg, SC

Electrical Contract Value: $3.2 Million

Project Size: 45,000 & 60,000 sq. ft.

Project Duration: 8 Months

The NURCC plastic recycling plant, a joint venture with the Coca-Cola Company, is among the world’s largest PET Bottle-to-Bottle recycling plants. The facility is designed to efficiently and sustainably process plastic waste materials, with a capacity to handle up to 60,000 tons of plastic per year. The expansive project includes a 45,000-square-foot building for sorting, grinding, and washing, which is complemented by a two-story office building featuring locker rooms, laboratories, and meeting spaces. Additionally, the project encompasses a 3,000-square-foot expansion to the existing 60,000-square-foot processing building. Further enhancements include the construction of a 60-foot-tall process tower as well as the development of a 40-acre site equipped for a baled bottle storage yard and truck shipping/receiving docks. These facilities enable the plant to convert waste materials into high-quality plastic products used in automotive parts, consumer packaging, and various industrial applications, supporting a wide range of industries globally.

The electrical systems installed ensure efficient power delivery to the heavy-duty sorting, grinding, and washing machinery. Advanced power distribution systems manage the high-energy requirements of the process tower and maintain consistent operations across the facility. The project also included the integration of energy-efficient technologies in lighting and machine operation, reflecting the venture’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
